Every year countless aspiring young actresses head to Hollywood seeking fame and fortune in the entertainment industry.

One of them, Rachel Bailit, a native of Needham who worked at Meadowbrook Day Camp in WESTON, has documented her journey from the suburbs to Tinseltown in a new show. Titled “Sugar Happens: A One-Girl Show,” the comedy celebrates the trials and tribulations of a “struggling” actress working to become a “successful” one.

“It’s about undying optimism,” said Bailit, who adds it’s about “trying to get a little ‘yes’ in the face of the whole world saying ‘no.’ ”

Written in collaboration with Sherry Cohen, the creator of the TV hit “Kate and Allie,” Bailit is currently performing the comedy at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in L.A. Directing the production is David Lee Strasberg, son of the legendary acting teacher Lee Strasberg.

Before embarking on this venture, Bailit appeared in several films, television shows and commercials. Her film credits include “Festival in Cannes” with Greta Scacchi and “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas.”

She has also performed the recurring role of Marissa on the soap opera “General Hospital” and had a guest spot on “NYPD Blue.”
